The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State has inaugurated a nine-member committee to develop its campaign strategy for the 2027 governorship election and officially unveiled Mr. Amos Adamu Gandu as the running mate to its governorship candidate, Alhaji Usman Shehu Bawa.
Speaking during the inauguration in Kaduna on Wednesday, Bawa said the committee had been mandated to produce a comprehensive campaign blueprint that would guide the party’s activities across the state’s 23 local government areas.
He explained that the committee would identify committed party members at the ward and local government levels and recommend strategies to strengthen the PDP’s grassroots structures ahead of the polls.
According to Bawa, the party has drawn lessons from previous elections and is determined to avoid past shortcomings.
“We have set up a team that will block all leakages and ensure that the mistakes of the previous election do not happen again,” he said.
Security, he noted, would be a major pillar of the PDP’s campaign agenda, stressing the need to restore peace across Kaduna State. He condemned the recent attacks in Kauru Local Government Area and other communities, describing the continued killings and abductions as deeply troubling.
Bawa called on the Kaduna State Government to collaborate with political parties, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders to develop lasting solutions to the state’s security challenges.
“This is beyond politics. It requires all stakeholders to come together and contribute ideas that will bring lasting peace to Kaduna State,” he said.
PDP State Chairman, Edward Marshal, said members of the committee were selected based on their experience and performance. He directed them to consult widely across the state and submit a comprehensive report within two weeks.
“The committee is expected to develop a campaign template that reflects the peculiarities of different parts of Kaduna State,” he said.
Marshal added that a PDP administration would reform the civil service to improve efficiency and strengthen traditional institutions to enhance their role in addressing insecurity. He also urged governments at all levels to intensify efforts to tackle the worsening security situation, noting that many kidnapping victims in Kachia Local Government Area remain in captivity.
Responding on behalf of the committee, Chairman Mr. Simon Yakubu, a former member of the House of Representatives, thanked the party leadership for the confidence reposed in the members and pledged that the committee would diligently carry out its assignment.
The committee has Prof. Umar Lawal as secretary and is expected to submit its report within two weeks. It is tasked with recommending strategies to strengthen the PDP’s campaign structure and grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 Kaduna governorship election.
